Barbara Hemphill started her career in the organizing industry in 1978 with a $7 ad in a New York City newspaper. In 1988 she released her first book Taming the Paper Tiger which became a bestseller and she quickly became known as “The Paper Tiger Lady"!  

Barbara is the founder of Productive Environment Institute, with offices in Raleigh and Carolina Beach, NC, and a team of Certified Productive Environment Specialists™ around the world who work with clients onsite and virtually. Their passion is helping professionals accomplish their work and enjoy their lives without disorganization and overwhelm.  

Barbara has been featured on national media platforms including Good Morning America, The Today Show and CNN Nightly News. She has also been showcased in publications including USA Today, New York Times, Fast Company, Reader’s Digest, Real Simple and Guideposts. She was included in Formidable Woman Power 20 and 100 Women to Know in America. 

Barbara’s book, Less Clutter More Life, reveals that physical and digital clutter is a symptom of emotional and spiritual clutter.  Along with authoring her own books, she is passionate about empowering others to do the same. She was honored to collaborate on the recently published book Taming the Digital Tiger: Gmail Edition. Her most recent book is the 20th Anniversary release of Love It or Lose It: Living Clutter-Free Forever; and her upcoming book The Hybrid Office for Business and Life: Tame Your Paper Tiger & Organize Your Time, Space and Information with Ease, will be published later this year.
