Martin Sørnes is a ultra-creative Audiologist with a big heart for hearing impaired people. Sørnes has for many years shown extreme resilience and endurance in his endeavors to make Audiology relevant for the 1,5 billion people with hearing loss globally. 

As we still test hearing about the same way today as in the birth of Audiology in the years after WW2, Sørnes found it strange that the current audiometry is based on measurements in silence, while every hearing impaired individual knows that it is in noisy conditions the problems occur. This is now also backed by research from the Audiology team at Stanford University, their bombshell discovery that there is no correlation between speech discrimination tests performed in silence (most frequent today), and in noise, is basically telling us we have been testing hearing wrong up until now.  

Sørnes is a Global Fellow of the HITLAB Breakthrough Alliance in NY, and of the RSA (Royal Society of Arts Manufacturing and Commerce) in the UK. 

Sørnes favorite quote is these words from the late Professor Oren Harari from the University of San Francisco: The electric light did not come from the continuous improvement of candles. Sometimes we need to reassess the problem, in order to make true progress. We need to rethink Audiology as a whole!
