Cheryl Wilson is a lifelong learner who has served over 25 years as a teacher, principal, university instructor, and instructional coach for adults. Since 1998, Cheryl's priorities have been to improve students' educational outcomes and build the confidence, sense of belonging, and self-worth of children and adults. When she retired in 2020, she took a course titled How People Learn. Unfortunately, this course is not taught in most teaching programs or was even offered in her doctorate program. This course forced her to come out of retirement and begin teaching elementary students how to learn. The purpose is to help them become independent, self-regulated learners. She wants them to be prepared to excel in middle school and beyond. She believes students in kindergarten through 12th grade must be taught how to study, manage their time, plan, and test themselves. When students are taught to identify what they do and do not know, they can take ownership of their learning. Accomplishing this goal will mean that she's finally fulfilled her purpose as an educator.
