Business Education +3Business Consulting Mental Health +5Neurodivergent and LGBTQIA+ the double rainbowCharlie Hart Director, Ausome Charlie LtdCharlie Hart (she/they) is an experienced, CIPD-qualified HR Analyst.
She was eventually diagnosed autistic at the age of 42, after struggling for decades without understanding why and without knowing how to advocate for her needs. Since then she has been diagnosed with Complex PTSD and ADHD, and is now thriving!
Delivering presentations and speeches about autism and neurodiversity inclusion in the workplace started as Charlie's side quest, but since leaving her HR Analyst role in June 2023 she has established a reputation as a popular and engaging keynote speaker.
Charlie is also bisexual/pansexual and gender non-conforming. The LGBTQIA+ community is just as important to her as the neurodivergent community, and there is a significant correlation. Her family promote love, compassion and support for all people on the ‘double rainbow’ intersection: LGBTQIA+ and Neurodivergent. Listen to Charlie's keynote to learn how, and why.

Business Education +3Business Consulting Mental Health +5The Wokey Worky Environment and why it is essentialSaleena Bhoyroo-Agyei Neuroscience in Education ConsultantWhy bother with a wokey worky environment? The answer is actually quite simple... it’s because each and every one of us is responsible for the safe and secure evolution of humankind. Which means our priorities as a species needs to change. When the smart phone was introduced into society...did we really appreciate its global impact? No. Not really. Either way it was invested in, researched, developed and produced. Society is suffering and requires the same commitments in investment, research and development that our material products like the smart phone receives. Levels of mental health issues are having a major global effect. From the leaders of countries to an employee at the local takeaway. If we don't make the fight for mental health a priority, we will see an epidemic big enough to rival the Covid outbreak. The International Association for Suicide Prevention estimates that over 700,000 people commit suicide globally per annum, that’s the same as antimicrobial resistance (AMR). It’s shocking and completely preventable at this level.
Since the dawn of time, the human brain has been evolving, one of the oldest parts of the brain being scientifically recognised is the limbic system. The limbic system is the emotional control centre of the brain. Why is this part of the brain being highlighted? For the sole reason that emotional reactions impact hormone release with immediate effect, the most famous being cortisol (the stress hormone). If this system is not managed, self and co-regulated then the human being falls into dysregulation, which we are witnessing across education and the workplace consistently. The world today is wonderful, but completely scary at the same time and in this beautiful melting pot of life, we have ‘neurotypicals’ and ‘neurodivergents’. If we do not recognise the neurological differences through honest audits, innovative resource procurement and basic free or cost-effective adaptations, then high staff turnover, failing children, mental health issues, workplace sickness, staff absence, child absence and general misery will continue to rise. The presentation doesn’t seek to solve all these issues, rather the point is to have a practical session which highlights the following;
- Basic neuroscience and how it affects the nervous system
- Hormones – destroying stereotypes
- Neurodivergent issues
- The challenges faced by those present at the presentation
- What has already been tried and tested
- Examples of best practice
- What already exists and how adaptable the current environment is or can be
- Which resources can be shared
- Any direction which could be given as to where further help exists
- How additional help can be sourced
- Further training
- General questions and answers (where possible)
